Status
Submitted for planning in February 2025, pending determination.
Acquired unconditionally in 2023, the cross boundary site is being promoted through both Mid-Sussex District Council and Lewes District Council’s emerging Local Plans.
The site was previously excluded from an earlier draft of the emerging Lewes DC Local Plan. Following comprehensive promotion efforts underpinned by technical rigour, it has been demonstrated that the site can be sensitively developed to overcome earlier objection. The site now benefits a Draft Allocation in the Lewes DC emerging Local Plan and has evolved to become the anchor of a wider allocation which will provide for a minimum of 435 new homes in total, with complimentary infrastructure including new community and sports facilities.
The site is now the subject of a live planning application which is running in parallel to the progression of the Local Plan. The proposals provide for a landscape-led masterplan which will provide for a mix of both market-sale and affordable tenure homes and includes the conversion and restoration of an 18th century curtilage-listed Sussex barn to bring this currently redundant building into community use for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public for the first time.
